NEXT EVENT - Thursday 21st January OPEN FORUM NIGHT and COMP HAND IN
Thursday 21st Open Forum night.
ALSO Thursday 21st 5th Competition hand in Theme: The Garden
Thursday 28th Zoom Lecture Tesni Ward "Working with Wildlife"
OPEN FORUM NIGHT
The next club meeting will be an 'Open Forum' event, for us, as a club, to explore and discuss any alternatives to the delivery structure and content we currently operate under.
This initiative has mainly come about as a result of some of the discussions and suggestions that have come up during our regular Zoom meetings, so we thought an evening dedicated to exploring what you'd like from the club content/delivery wise, or how we can deliver a more varied programme structure would be beneficial for us all.
If you have anything you'd like to discuss or suggest please send it to Iain at firstname.lastname@example.org
Alternatively head over to our members page and Carol has kindly put together a poll to help you to share your views.

EXTERNAL CLUB COMPETITIONS - UPDATE
Our entry has been finalised for both the Open and Nature competitions. The judging was to take place at the end of January but appears to have been postponed for a while. This is the first time, certainly for many years, that we have entered our national club competition.
We entered 20 images in the Open and 16 images in the Nature. There is a nominal cost which the Club has funded.
Many thanks to the 22 members who submitted images for the Selection Committee to go through. Whilst I hope that this participation will increase it is a decent start to our new process. If you didn’t send me images then maybe look at doing so next time as there will be plenty more opportunities coming up. - see below
This was the trial run for the Selection Committee so thanks also to Alf, Andy, Nancy and Iain for giving up their time to go through the excellent images submitted. It was interesting to see the different views that we all had and, if nothing else, it shows how difficult and subjective the judging process is.
I will talk through the process and the selection at our next weekly session but if you would like to know more then let me know.

Note - This competition (and our entry) is carried forward from last March so no selection process this time around.

Lancashire Photographic Festival
For those who were on the Zoom on Thursday, you will recall I mentioned about PPS participating in a pilot outdoor photographic exhibition (probably in April subject to conditions). The idea is that all exhibits can be viewed from outdoors although the will likely be hosted in empty shop windows etc. This is part of Preston Photographic Festival which is being organised by Garry Cook (see my shared post below dated 13th January).
As a committee we felt it appropriate to have a presence and to the end have picked a theme for a set of images that people can safely take (or have taken) in lockdown conditions. The idea is that we present a set of self portraits of our members called "Self-ie Isolation". I am looking for at least 12 people to participate to make it worthwhile although it would be great to have as many of you as possible. No details about printing or sizing yet but I am looking to gauge interest - dont worry about that bit. There are no rules other than it is an image of YOU, taken by YOU. There have been a number of posts I have seen over recent months that fit the script and there were at least two Domestic Goddess images recently. It can be traditional, abstract or just plain weird (not mentioning any names !).
Please indicate in the comments below if you are prepared to join in. If you have an idea but not sure how to execute it, feel free to ask for advice.
Finally, it you are interested in the other part of the festival and keen to learn about documentary photography, contact Garry Cook (not our Garry) - details in his post below. He is running a number of free workshops.

Happy New Year from FoWSThank you to everyone who viewed our ' Winckley Christmas Cracker!' on YouTube - almost 2000 and thanks for all the lovely comments about it. I hope it brought you a little cheer in these very difficult times. You can still watch it if you missed it.
I thought I would send you a link to the article Steve wrote after a chance remark was made to him about the lack of anything historical to see in this area.
You can read it on our website.
I am aware that some of you have difficulty accessing PDF files on your device. We will try to address this on our website as soon as we can.
Hopefully I will soon be writing to you about events we will be resuming in the Gardens. We are very optimistic about the Preston Jazz Festival in June going ahead. FINGERS CROSSED
With very best wishes,
