PAGB Inter-Club Projected Digital Image Competition 2025 - Competition Detailed Report
PPS, for the first time, had been invited to represent the L&CPU in this event. This is in recognition of the work we are producing as a Club and how well we are doing in External Competitions generally – and that is down to you as members! I co-ordinate the processes and, with the help of the Selection Committee (Tim, Paul, Iain, and Peter), we try to give the Club the opportunity to compete against some of the best clubs in the country.
Below is a detailed report on our had excellent achievements at the PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championships Competition 2025.
There were 37 Clubs taking part nationally.
Round 1 consisted of 8 images - which had to be uploaded prior to the event yesterday. This is a quick fire round with the three judges having only seconds to give scores – no feedback or discussion, as the round consisted of 296 images
No. Author Image Title Scores
1 Tim Gilbert N Wren Reflection 12
2 Angela Kershaw Mini Mad Professor 13
3 Iain Jack Creating Dust 11
4 Robert Turley First and Second 12
5 Michael Porter Shielding the Ball 12
6 Paul Yates The Child Catcher 13
7 Michael Porter N Seal-ed with a kiss 11
8 Dee Hounslea The Apple Snaffler 10
Total 94
Round 2 consisted of 8 images – we were getting a feel of the competition by then and what the judges were liking and how they were scoring
No. Author Image Title Scores
1 Tim Gilbert 886 Takes it Tight 9
2 Karen Browne Is this real life! Is this just fantasy! 12
3 Angela Kershaw Tuuletar, Goddess of Wind 14
4 Dee Hounslea Natalie with her horse and hound 12
5 Lee Inskip-Clarke N Praying Mantis….Shh 11
6 Lesley Wilkinson Gatsby 11
7 Robert Turley Trapped 11
8 Michael Porter N Chaffinch Squabble 13
Total 93
The image that got the biggest reaction of the day (laugh) was without doubt Karen’s ‘Is this real life! Is this just fantasy!’ – the audience loved it! There was an audible gasp when the judges marked it 12 – a definite indication they thought it was worthy of a higher score – and we agreed with them!
All the scores were then collected for each Club with the top 8 Club then progressing to the final – we were only 5 points away from being in the final.
Those Clubs not making the Final them competed for ‘The Plate’.
The Plate Competition consisted of another 8 images - we knew by this time that motorsports were not as popular and landscapes were not doing well. We could resubmit some of our top scoring images - plus others from our ‘Bank’. Our final selection in the end was was:
No. Author Image Title Scores
1 Michael Porter. N Chaffinch Squabble 13
2 Angela Kershaw Mini Mad Professor 12
3 Angela Kershaw Tuuletar, Goddess of Wind 13
4 Julie Knowles Carnivale de Morte 12
5 Tim Gilbert N Starling Chicks Battle 13
6 Paul Yates The Child Catcher 13
7 Tim Gilbert Jess with Aslan 13
8 Dee Hounslea V for Vendetta 11
Total 100
Once all scores were reported back we had come in 3rd place – a wonderful result. In 2nd place was Southport with 102 points and 1st place was Keswick with 105 points – many congratulations to both Clubs!
The Final was won in joint 1st place Rolls-Royce Derby and Chorley with Ayr coming 3rd – the first time they have entered the competition! Many congratulations to them and to all Clubs taking part – a great day for photography!
We then had the presentations – several awards relating to PAGB Comps plus the awards from the day. It was at this point we found out Angela Kershaw had received the Chairman’s Award of a Silver Medal for her image – ‘Tuuletar, Goddess of Wind’. I was delighted to collect this on her behalf and the Chairman commented he thought it was a ‘wonderful image’ – many congratulations to Angela!
I hope members find this report helpful. As a Club we have learnt a great deal from this competition. We can compete at a high level and we do have a terrific catalogue from which to draw from going forward - that is down to you as members - so thank you!
Let's look forward to another exciting season – get those cameras out and enjoy the summer!
Happy snapping!

Matching Battle Competition
A slight change to the syllabus means the Matching Battle Competition which was due to take place in March will now take place on Thursday 15 May.
The scheduled Zoom Annual General Meeting will now take place the week after on Thursday 22 May.
Following last year success we will defend the trophy on home soil, as three digital images are shown by each club as they battle it out to match their image (whether images match or not is at the decision of the judge, heckling is allowed).
The club with the highest score at the end of the evening wins.
Here is the way it works
All teams operate their own computer, projector and screen so that images can be selected then projected and viewed at the same time alongside each other.
Teams displayed their images alternately with the image put up by the first team requiring to be ‘matched’ by the second team
Thirty seconds is allowed to put up a matching, or attempt at a matching, image. One point is awarded to the team displaying the first image. If the team displaying the second image is judged to be displaying a matching image, then a point is awarded to them for successfully matching the image
An additional bonus point is awarded to the team judged to have the better image of the two but if there is no match this bonus point goes to the team which put up the first image.
