PAGB Overview
The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) is a membership organisation that co-ordinates, activities for photographic Clubs in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man).
It does this through 15 geographical Federations. Preston Photographic Society (PPS) belongs to the L&CPU federation.
The PAGB organises photographic events for its Federations and Clubs. It offers services such as Recorded Lectures and its own photographic Distinctions, known as Awards for Photographic Merit.
The PAGB has strong links with similar organisations. In the UK, it has cross-representation with the Royal Photographic Society. It liaises throughout the world via its membership of FIAP (The International Federation of Photographic Art).

Competitions
The PAGB organises a number of different competitions. As some of these are either at Federation level or for Federation nominated clubs they are not directly relevant for PPS. There is also an individual print competition.
Details of these competitions can be found on the PAGB website.
The two competitions that are open to PPS at a club level are the GB Cup for projected digital images (PDIs) and the GB Trophy for prints.
Both of these have an Open and a Nature section. Before January 2021, PPS had not entered these competitions in recent times if at all.

Awards for Photographic Merit
The Awards for Photographic Merit (APM) are open only to members of Clubs affiliated to the PAGB through their Federations.
Applicants initially apply through their Club and there are qualifying periods of membership for the different levels.
